League Prize 2015: First Office

The Architectural League Prize 2015
First Office
Anna Neimark and Andrew Atwood

Anna Neimark and Andrew Atwood founded Los Angeles-based design collaborative First Office in 2011.

Titled “Anna Neimark and Andrew Atwood Talk About Models,” the pair’s League Prize lecture details a series of their recent projects, through which runs the theme of “building models after the fact” to illustrate the work. They quickly describe three early projects: Zoopol, a conceptual study for producing a new urban form through the figure/ground plane; a series of monumental furniture parts for the Pinterest headquarters; and the Possible Table exhibition.

Neimark and Atwood then discuss Paranormal Panorama, a panoramic painting at Los Angeles’ MAK Center done completely in shades of white, using a “paint by numbers” specifications book, that gives the gallery a “domestic appearance.” Finally, the Shotgun House in Kentucky re-thinks the interior of that vernacular form by building four pathways into and out of each room, transforming it into a live/work/display space for an artist.
