FF – Distance Edition: Ken Smith Workshop

In this video Ken Smith, founder and principal of New York City-based Ken Smith Workshop, and his team, present a number of the firm’s completed and ongoing projects, to showcase both the firm’s work and its way of working. Including Meatpacking District, the permanent redesign of a historic Manhattan thoroughfare; and St. Pete Pier, a twelve-acre pedestrian-oriented pier in St. Petersburg, Florida, the works shown allow the firm to present its approach to creating vibrant and multipurpose landscapes.

The presentation is followed by a conversation with Maria Bellalta, dean of landscape architecture at Boston Architectural College. Bellalta and Smith discuss the agency of landscape architecture in New York and America, Ken’s artistic influences (from minimalism to pop art) and what’s coming for the firm.

The League’s FF – Distance Edition events are informal online studio visits offering a behind-the-scenes look at leading design practices.
