Why are cars frequently provided with more space than our homes?

Why we need to talk about parking.
Many recent housing developments are arguably blighted by poorly considered vehicle access and parking space, requiring large areas of arid hard surfacing. This also consumes space otherwise available for dwellings, gardens and public green space.
From addressing climate change, to health and well being and future proofing the design and layout of our homes there is scope for improvement.
