“Guiding development in Winchester” – the Winchester SPD

Award-winning architect and masterplanner JTP was appointed by Winchester City Council in 2016 to develop a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for Central Winchester, through an 18-month programme of extensive stakeholder and community engagement.
 
Marcus Adams, JTP’s Managing Partner, sets out how JTP led a multi-disciplinary team to create an SPD for a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly quarter that is distinctly Winchester.

From engendering a collaborative, community based approach to urban design and placemaking,
through to resolving a Supplementary Planning Document. The presentation uses the City of
Winchester in the UK as the example.

Marcus Adams DipArch MA Urban Design RIBA, is Managing Partner of the architects,
masterplanners and placemakers jtp, with responsibility for the strategic planning and
management of the practice. Supported by the practice’s Board of Partners, he maintains a hands
-on approach to projects.
He is an architect and urban designer with substantial experience, working with private and public
sectors to lead the design and delivery of major new mixed-use neighbourhoods, large scale
regeneration, and strategic placemaking projects in the UK and internationally.
