This Natural and Light-Filled Renovation is Perfect for the Growing Family

Pat and Taryn enlisted the help of Olaver to renovate their 1900s Victorian weatherboard home in Brunswick. They wanted a natural and light-filled extension that would accommodate their growing family and allow for entertaining friends.

The heritage of the existing home needed to be retained, with Olaver keeping the front rooms intact and converting the living room into a third bedroom with an ensuite. The bedrooms were separated from the living area by a wet zone, with the kitchen, living, and dining area at the rear of the home.

The interiors showcased painted white brick, a recycled red brick perimeter and a mix of muted green laminate and Vic Ash timber veneer for the joinery. Sustainability was a key consideration, with thermal mass in the brick and concrete floor, high-level windows, and fans to regulate temperature. The home is compact by Australian standards, at 119m2, which is inherently sustainable.

The result is a sustainable, family-friendly home with a natural, textured, and light-filled atmosphere.
