This tutorial will demonstrate how to create more realistic shadows with superior colouring in Adobe Illustrator. The biggest mistake designers make when it comes to creating realistic shadows, is using black as the shadow colour, as this doesn’t take into account the background that the shadow sits upon. However, if you use (and understand how to select) a custom colour for your shadow, you can make the shadow and it’s colouring seem much more realistic, as it will take into account the colour of the background, and how how this background colour will influence the appearance of the shadow.
