__Description__
This video explores the line between utopian ideals and dystopian realities. These fictional scenarios might not be as far removed from our own reality as you think. Discover the architectural and social designs that subtly influence our everyday lives, often without our conscious awareness. I interviewed Dr. Dan Bashara to outline six critical points that can help identify dystopian elements in our surroundings. These points serve as a guide to understanding the deeper intentions behind urban designs and how they might be affecting our autonomy and quality of life. By assessing transportation options, interactions with life forms, accessibility of space, environmental hazards, service efficiency, and levels of surveillance, we provide a toolkit to gauge the dystopian or utopian nature of your city.
With this guide you should be able to recognize and understand the subtle ways our environments shape your life. Whether you’re an urban planner, a social scientist, or simply someone curious about the spaces we inhabit, it offers valuable insights into the intersection of architecture, control, and societal wellbeing. Join the conversation and reflect on the role of design in our daily lives.
