The Red Nest

More than a quarter of London’s hospitals loose patients because of blood deficit. The Red Nest is a proposal for the future of London’s blood delivery system. Numerous courier firms are directly involved in the process of blood delivery but they are all bound to the same restrictions of a ground based transportation network. Traffic jams, car accidents or speed tickets are some of the factors that a van, motorcycle or scooter delivery is exposed to and consequently, the factors that might determine someone’s life. The Red Nest houses remotely controlled quadcopter drones that deliver the blood by air, thus removing all of the said risks. The process starts at a donor centre downtown. The blood is first delivered by ground transportation to the nearest hospital to which the proposed building is attached. After passing through repeated tests, it is stored in a space with controlled temperature and then delivered by drone to the hospitals in need.

YEAR 3, UG 0 – Urban RitualsProject 2 Task:
Your site for the main project will be somewhere of your own choosing in London, in the areas where there are powerful forms of urban ritual. How might your building design on your chosen site add to the importance and enactment of these rituals? How can rethinking urban ritual help to create a new identity for your site as well as for the surrounding areas in London? Students’ projects will therefore need to explore the notion of urban ritual to come up with innovative kinds of building uses that will enhance urban and cultural interaction.
