Dr Sue Berry FSA FRHistS specialises in the history of seaside resorts but also writes about country houses and their estates. Some of her published work is available free on line on the website of the Georgian Group, and on the website of York Data Services which hosts the digitised version of the Sussex Archaeological Collections.
The development of seaside resorts has been under explored, but they were a very significant group of towns by the later 1800s and many of the issues they faced in the past associated with the need for high quality urban management to attract visitors apply to the majority of towns today. © Urban Design Group
