‘The Brutalist Playground’: Interview with Gary Colburn

In this interview Gary Colburn, lifelong resident of the Churchill Gardens Estate, London, shares his memories of the estate and its former Brutalist-style playground.

Gary was one of the children seen playing in the photograph (http://bit.ly/1NfQnSG) used to inspire the RIBA’s ‘The Brutalist Playground’, a commission by Turner Prize nominees Assemble and artist Simon Terrill which explored post-war design for play. This image of the playground at Churchill Gardens was taken in 1978 by John Donat, and is part of the RIBA’s collection of four million architectural items.

Thanks to Gary for taking the time to share his fascinating memories with us.
