Strategic Urban Design: Problems in the processes used when identifying sites for development.

Paul Reynolds outlines flaws in the current development site selection and allocation process, particularly with regard to housing. Jas Bhalla describes the lack of interface between national and local planning and between plans at a local scale.
The presentations advocate a more strategic, proactive role for planning in identifying prospective development sites (based on public transport, social infrastructure, flood risk, etc) combined with the current ‘call for sites’ approach.
Paul Reynolds is a Chartered Landscape Architect & Urban Designer and a founding Director of the Urban Planning & Design Practice Urben.  He has specialised in transit orientated development schemes and masterplanning.
