In 2013, the Nest Collective, a Nairobi-based alternative art group, began recording stories of Kenyans identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex. Called the Stories of Our Lives project, it evolved into the collective’s striking first feature film, a compilation of five scripted black-and-white shorts based on the vivid stories that characterize the queer experience in Kenya. Originally produced anonymously and banned in Kenya, the film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Jim Chuchu.
In Swahili, with English subtitles.
