The latest episode of our Scenes series—which profiles wild and wonderful cultural experiences around the world—takes a nose dive into the subterranean world of London’s techno clubs, courtesy of filmmaker Joseph Delaney and alien industrial zine SORT. The London-based director’s film documents the chthonic underbelly of a space where free expression is pushed to the extreme. As Delaney explains, “Anyone with a penchant for a little darkness can get a bad wrap. But this community—introspective, often intelligent and always respectful—are onto something. This is the true safe space, stripped of the politics of identity—held together by nothing more than a need to seek out extreme music and the hedonism that surrounds that.”
