Roger Diener – Diener And Diener Architekten

Lecture date: 2001-02-20

The recent work of Basel-based architectural practice Diener & Diener falls essentially into two categories – urban planning and renovation. In the first category are projects such as Malmo University, where the development and extension of an existing site aimed to overcome divisions in the city and to create a new dynamic, whilst behaving as a city within itself.

The second category consists of a number of projects that transform existing structures, for example the Swiss Embassy in Berlin or the Ruhrmuseum in Essen.

Roger Diener, the head of the practice, explains how such apparently different projects are based on similar strategies that play on ideas of continuity and dynamic renewal.
