Rianne Makkink describes how her firm Max.1 took its name from one of her early designs for a residence, which was called both the ugliest house in the Netherlands, and the most beautiful. Max.1 was featured in the 9+1 (Nine + One) Exhibition series, hosted by the Netherlands Architecture Institute. Makkink presents a series of projects that she and her partner Rients Dijkstra designed after winning a commission for the development of a large Vinex-location housing development in the Netherlands.
