Re-lifing apartment buildings. A co-design model emerges.

What happens when privately-owned apartment buildings need upgrade? Multiple owners – all with their own ideas – can mean it’s easier to sell and move, rather than refurbish.

But two Sydney researchers want to change that – and give architects and homeowners the tools they need to co-design a new life for old apartment buildings. We sat down with UNSW’s Dr Hazel Easthope and University of Sydney’s Dr Sandra Loschke to unpack their vision for a more participatory and sustainable approach to apartment redevelopment – research which is being supported by the NSW ARB.
