Raoul Bunschoten – Urban Flotsam: Stirring The City

Lecture date: 2001-05-24

Raoul Bunschoten discusses themes from his book Urban Flotsam. The book examines the impact of global trends on local environments, and the way in which they create the flotsam of the title, what Bunschoten describes as the ‘second skin of the earth’. He examines a range of issues including how to observe and model global influence, and how to develop and implement scenarios on the basis of this knowledge.

Raoul Bunschoten is an architect and a former Diploma Unit Master at the AA. He is the founder of CHORA, an independent research laboratory involved in the creation, investigation and testing of new forms of urban planning, urban policy and urban design.
