Munich Creative Business Week from 21st February to 1st March, 2015

München, Germany, 2015-02-05 –

Munich, 22nd January, 2015 | In the last week of February Munich will turn into a design metropolis during the Munich Creative Business Week (MCBW) organised by bayern design. During this week, a variety of events will take place for the public and international experts. Numerous free exhibitions, events, workshops and tours as well as panel discussions will attract everyone, who is interested in design (www.mcbw.de).

Exhibitions

During the MCBW, the Neue Werkstätten in cooperation with the Danish manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son are dedicating an interesting exhibition to the influential Master of Danish modern art, Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007). The Rosenthal flagship store exhibits works by artist and designer Siba Sahabi. The designer will also be present at an after work event. The exhibition “Four-legged friends for bipeds” at the gallery Karin Sachs is dedicated to the applied art of building a chair. The exhibition will showcase models and sketches by leading contemporary designers such as Christoph de la Fontaine, Steffen Kehrle and Nitzan Cohen. A Korean designer deals with “the art of taking a break” at the gallery Rieder. The exhibitions at the design and lifestyle store SHU SHU as well as the MCBW FORUM will give further insights into Far Eastern design from Japan and Taiwan. The Nymphenburg flagship store, in cooperation with ClassicCon, will display sketches by Munich designer Konstantin Grcic. For his designs made of porcelain and sheet steel, he draws upon the experience of a manufacture and diverse industrial manufacturing technique. The Italian design company Alessi presents works by Giulio Iacchetti at its store in the Fünf Höfe. The topic “Universal Design” is traditionally exhibited at the Oskar-von-Miller Forum and accompanied by several activities. The BMW Museum features an exhibition about the history of the cult car MINI as well as the presentation of the Bavarian State Prize for Young Designers 2014 (from 24th February onwards).

Events, workshops, tours and panel discussions

Those who prefer to actively deal with design can visit one of several MCBW events such as the Bar Camp about city life at the Hochschule München (22nd February, 2015). At the panel discussion at MAGAZIN, the Danish entrepreneur Rolf Hay and Munich designer Stefan Diez will discuss the path from a product idea to the final product (25th February, 2015). We can also expect a controversial discussion during Grantler’s Corner 2015 at the Wirtshaus Alte Kongresshalle. The issue will be the relationship between politics and design (25th February, 2015). The architectural tours through the Hofstatt offered by the city provide unusual insights into the city’s architecture (24th and 26th February, 2015) as well as the tour through the recently re-designed elevated bunker on Ungererstraße. (21st, 24th and 28 th February, 2015). Two free tours will be offered every day through the design exhibitions of the MCBW FORUM from 24th February until 1st March. On 26th and 28th February a design bus will tour through Munich: The tours will be accompanied by two design experts, who – based on selected locations – will explain what Munich means to them and where the city’s creative hotspots can be found. An MCBW highlight is the annual iF award ceremony on 27th February 2015 at the BMW Welt. About 2,000 guests from the international design scene, media, business and politics are expected to attend the event. Tickets are available online. Visitors who prefer to take a break from the hustle and bustle will find a nice and relaxing atmosphere for drinking coffee and reading at the Reading Room by VITSOE. Finally, the MCBW will offer the Zuckerkuchen & Design event on March 1st, 2015 at the Oskar-von-Miller Forum, which attracts adults and children alike.
