Why do you lack motivation? Why haven’t you acted yet? Why does it take a loss before you do something about it? How do you become more valuable in the workplace?
In this episode, we take a segment from the After Hours live chats with Chris. Ricky, Aaron, and Jona share all the reasons why they haven’t acted on some simple tasks that could help them advance in their jobs.
“You didn’t tell me exactly what to do“
“I didn’t know it was urgent“
“I was waiting on you“
The three of them are looking for every reason why their boss is to blame, but haven’t spent the time to internally reflect on what they could change about themselves. These three employees aspire to move up, yet their mindset is that of an order taker. Not a mover and shaker.
Chris’ advice?
Stop waiting.
Take ownership.
Provide value.
You can be a better version of yourself the moment you act.
Frank Tran’s advice:
1. Always have a notebook or something to write on with me at all times
2. Try to get a yes/no checklist of things to do
3. Always ask for timeline for the task provided
4. Show the list to the lead so the lead knows what I’m up to
5. Get the lead to confirm that the list of tasks is what I’m going to accomplish for the day.
