Manthia Diawara is a Malian writer, filmmaker, cultural theorist, scholar, and art historian. Here, he examines Aimé Césaire’s poem Calling the Magician and describes his travels with Édouard Glissant. The Serpentine’s annual festival of ideas brought together practitioners from the fields of activism, art, anthropology, architecture, literature, music, philosophy, theology and science.
