Earlier this year, Gemma O’Brien came by the studio to put on one of her amazing hand lettering workshops. People of all ages and skill levels came out to hone their lettering.
We hope to put on more of these workshops for people who live in the greater Los Angeles area.
Gemma O’Brien:
After completing a Bachelor of Design at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Gemma worked as an art director at Animal Logic, Fuel VFX and Toby and Pete before deciding to fly solo as a commercial illustrator in 2012. Her typographic work takes on a variety of forms, from calligraphic brushwork, illustrated letterforms and digital type to large scale hand-painted murals. Her clients include Adobe, Playboy Magazine, Nike, Adidas, Volcom Stone, Heineken, QANTAS, Heinz, Smirnoff and The New York Times. A number of her projects have been recognised by the New York The Type Directors Club with Awards of Typographic Excellence and in 2015 she was recognised as an ADC Young Gun. In her spare time she travels and draws puke puns on barf bags for the Spew Bag Challenge.
