John Welchman – Mike Kelleys Extracurricular Activities

Art historian John Welchman presents a lecture on two works by artist Mike Kelley: Day is Done (2005) and Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction #2-32 (2004-05). Described as musical-cum-vaudeville video reviews, they explore the relation between memory, repression and architectural and institutional space.

John Welchman is professor of art history in the Visual Arts department at the University of California, San Diego, and chair of the Southern California of Art Schools. His books include Art After Appropriation: Essays on Art in the 1990s. He is the co-author of Mike Kelley and editor of Rethinking Borders, three volumes in the collected writings of Mike Kelley.
