James Corner – Thick

Lecture date: 2006-02-02

James Corner discusses recent projects by Field Operations including the High Line, Fresh Kills, and the Botanical Garden of Puerto Rico. The topic of ‘Thick’ suggests a focus upon sectional surfaces, layered landscapes and textural topographies, while at the same time alluding to haze, density and the unclear.

James Corner is Principal of Field Operations in New York, and Professor and Chair of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design. A recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award and many design prizes, he is also the author of Taking Measures Across the American Landscape and the editor of Recovering Landscape: Essays in Contemporary Landscape Architecture.
