Historic Preservation Podcast #18: Ana Lucia Gonzalez Ibañez on Art and Heritage

Emily Kahn, second year MSHP student, speaks with architect and artist, Ana Lucia Gonzalez Ibañez, in advance of her Fall 2019 lecture at the school. Her latest undertaking, ANA IBAÑEZ Contemporary Jewelry Studio, is a militant creative project that looks for other ways to talk about preservation, cultural diversity, and biodiversity.

They discuss how Ibañez’s training as an architect has helped her to design jewelry that combines art and heritage, while preserving craftsmanship and tradition. Ibañez explains how contemporary jewelry can function as a new language, using a set of codes to facilitate important discussions around politics and diversity today.
