Jorge Otero-Pailos, director of GSAPP’s Historic Preservation Program, speaks with alumni Angel Ayón in advance of his Spring 2019 lecture at the school. Angel Ayón is principal of AYON Studio in New York City, which provides comprehensive professional services in the fields of architecture and historic preservation.
They discuss Ayón’s work around the conservation of exterior glazed enclosures, a defining feature of Modern architecture. In the process, Ayón analyzes multiple approaches for intervention on steel frame glazed enclosures, and presents case studies including the rehabilitation and exterior enhancement of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, for which he was the project architect between 2004 and 2008.
