An examination of the role of the computer in developing techniques of temporal and spatial continuity and change at the level of a virtual device. Here, the term ‘virtual’ indicates not merely the immaterial, but also the diagrammatic tools by which concepts are actualised to create technologies which occupy the zone between the abstract and the concrete.
