Glenn Murcutt Lecture

The Five Thousand Pound Life is The Architectural League’s multiyear initiative rethinking our collective future through design in the face of climate change.

Alice Larkin, a professor of climate science and energy policy at the University of Manchester, created this video in order to provide an overview of the issues discussed during the summer 2018 Aviation and Climate Change event.

Aviation and shipping are sometimes considered small pieces of the climate change puzzle, but at a combined 5% of global carbon emissions—equal to the whole of South America—they demand immediate attention, Alice Larkin argues.

In this video, she explores strategies for reducing their climate impact, including a moratorium on airport expansions.
