Edward Soja – Regions On My Mind

Lecture date: 2001-11-19

Drawing on his publication Postmetropolis, Edward Soja ‘riffs on the topic of region and regionalist’, exploring the spatialization of thinking and the interrelationship of nested scales from the body to the global. For Soja, the region is an integrative concept that constitutes a fundamental formation of human society and he defines his own role as a ‘critical regionalist geographer-planner’.

Edward Soja is Professor of Geography at UCLA. His research and writing focuses on the critical study of cities and regions, and also how social scientists and philosophers think about space and geography, especially in relation to how they think about time and history.

Followed by a discussion with Ricky Burdett and Mohsen Mostafavi.
