Honouring the world’s best interiors

Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2018-01-15 –

The search for the best interiors started off in September 2017 and led to 892 submissions from all over the world for the first-ever Frame Awards. Now after weeks of deliberating, the international jury of renowned industry leaders have selected the nominees.

‘All the Frame Award nominees show an impeccable drive to push spatial design forward’

– Robert Thiemann, Founder of Frame

30 categories honour the world’s best interiors

Interior designers, makers, and clients from all over the world were invited to submit their best interiors and spatial work in several categories. The Spatial, Executional, and Societal Awards cover the entire spectrum of non-residential interiors, while the Honorary Awards celebrate the people behind them. The Spatial Awards recognize interior projects in Retail, Hospitality, Work, Shows and Institutions. The Executional Awards commend interior design elements such as material and colour, while the Societal Awards celebrate positive social and environmental impact.

Recognizing established and emerging studios

The jury members have selected the nominees who will get to present their projects and perhaps take the stage as Frame Awards winners on 21 February. Amongst the nominees are renowned firms like OMA, Nendo and Gensler, work created for brands and people like Beyoncé, Audi and Dropbox and also emerging studios like Linehouse, Space Encounters and Spacon & X. The entries cover a diverse range of spaces, from museums to workspaces and set designs.

Dutch sustainability, Asian innovation

Selected from nearly 900 submissions, the Frame Awards 2018 nominees reveal a new era of design with notable themes that place the Dutch at the forefront of sustainability and show tech companies paving the way in progressive workspaces. A significant portion of projects by and for Asian companies were selected across all categories, suggesting a fundamental shift in the global dynamic where the continent is taking its place as a leader of novelty and innovation in architecture and design.

An international jury of industry leaders

Unlike most awards shows, the work was judged not just by other designers but by all industry stakeholders: retail brands, hospitality providers, cultural institutions, and educators. Jury members include Jaime Hayon (Hayon Studio Founder), India Mahdavi (Founder and director of India Mahdavi Architecture and Design), Matteo Bressanin (Nespresso Global Retail Channel Manager), Jo Nagasaka (Founder and director of Schemata Architects), Anja Dirks (President European Council of Interior Architects), Ben van Berkel (UNStudio Founder), Patricia Urquiola (Founder Patricia Urquiola), and Liran Wizman (Europe Hotels Private Collection Chairman and Founder).

Public Vote commences

Now that the jury has made its selection it is time to give the public their voice. Through the Frame Awards website the public gets the chance to vote for their favourite nominees in each category and decide the People’s Vote.

Awards Show and Frame Lab

The Frame Awards culminates with the live judging and the Awards Show on 21 February 2018, alongside the Frame Lab programme. Frame Lab is a two-day event organized in collaboration with the interior business association IBA, showcasing the future of spaces through a blend of talks, exhibitions,
workshops, and panel discussions. The Awards Show includes the announcement of the winners, a grand dinner, and afterparty with selected jury members, VIPs, and press in attendance.
