Andrew Benjamin examines the relationship between Malevich’s theoretical writings and their concern with zero as a point of origination, and his architectural drawings and models.
Zero for Malevich is the term that is deployed in order that the line has a generative dimension. There is an interesting point of comparison with contemporary concerns with the diagram and this conception of a productive abstraction.
Benjamin discusses the relationship between Malevich’s concerns with form creation and potentiality (the volcano of excitement without the goal of meaning) and with thought (seeking perfection), concentrating on the relevance of the disjunctive relationship between potentiality and completion for a productive theory of architectural abstraction.
