A.UD Lecture Series 2016-17: Dana Cuff_Feb_27_2017

Dr. Dana Cuff, UCLA A.UD Professor and Founding Director of cityLABleads unconventional architectural practices deploying new logics of discipline, economy, and social purpose.

As head of cityLAB and the Urban Humanities Initiative at UCLA, Dr. Dana Cuff has been exploring various forms of collaboration in terms of both scholarship and design. This has led to a focus on practices that disrupt conventional disciplinary boundaries. The modus operandi is a project-orientation: at cityLAB, architecture operates generatively to produce urban results, while in the UHI, cross-disciplinary urban interventions weave together historical interpretation, contemporary cultural study, and projective design thinking. Cuff’s extensive studies of the architectural profession provide the context for these new experiments, and for thinking about the potential reformation of the architectural project and practice.
