Seventy Seven is a 2,700-square-foot high street boutique located in Yorkville, one of Toronto’s most exclusive shopping districts. The boutique was conceived as a showcase for Canadian Designer Kimberley Newport Mimran’s Pink Tartan collection. In addition, the boutique houses a carefully curated selection of lifestyle products from a number of other niche labels.

The existing exterior of the boutique is a compelling marriage of a stone heritage home and a modern glass-box addition. Seventy Seven’s interior concept is imbued with the essence of a designer’s atelier or showroom. This was achieved through the creation of four principal rooms; each furnished with custom and collected pieces that give the space a very personal, private feel.

The sophisticated use of materiality, paired with a subtle, tonal colour palette elevates the offering and provides an ethereal backdrop for the product. Meticulous attention to detail is apparent in the understated nuances of the space. A coarsely textured bespoke wall finish inspired by classic tweeds adds depth and texture to the space. The keen observer recognizes its subtle reference to textiles and clothing. On another plane, simple geometric low-profile panels delineate the space and add visual interest.

Lighting is an integral component of this design. Indirect lighting creates a soft ethereal glow throughout the space, while directional lighting beautifully accentuates the product.

The custom-brushed pewter floor fixtures and wall system create ample space for display. These elements are complimented by custom tables in bronze and glass, adding visual interest and providing a unique sculptural element to the environment. Custom silk and wool blend carpets define the rooms with a gentle nod to luxury. Single hooks are used to highlight pieces from the collection, elevating the clothing to art.

The interior design concept creates a distinctive voice for the brand and an effective platform for showcasing the Pink Tartan label. The environment looks and feels a million miles away from the outside world and emphasizes a rich brand experience. The Burdifilek design team formulated a successful concept by balancing the dynamic architectural language with the functionality of working luxury retail space.

This store concept was meticulously curated and beautifully executed. It provides a sophisticated backdrop for the clothing brands and creates a holistic environment within which to showcase a variety of products.
