2025 DigitalFUTURES Mark Cousins Theory Award
Albena Yaneva
Each year DigitalFUTURES makes the Mark Cousins Theory Award for exceptional work in the domain of theory. The award is named in honour of Mark Cousins, long time Director of General Studies and Head of the Graduate Programme in Histories and Theories at the Architectural Association.
The award celebrates unconventional approaches to theory, that seek to rethink the very notion of theory. The work need not be computational in its orientation, and might not even be considered theory in the conventional sense, so much as highly reflexive critical writing. Past winners have included:
2021 Ana Maria Duran CallistoÂ
2022 Aleksandra JaeschkeÂ
2023 Andrej RadmanÂ
2024 Eyal WeizmanÂ
For 2025, the committee – consisting of Andrej Radman, Michael Just, Dulmini Perera and Neil Leach – has voted to give the award to Albena Yaneva, in recognition of her numerous, extraordinary contributions to architectural theory.Â
Albena Yaneva is currently Professor of Architectural Theory at Politecnico di Torino, where she directs the Invisible Cities Lab, and Adjunct Professor at Columbia GSAPP.
