Inspired by a childhood passion for treehouses and New York-style lofts, Structural engineer Niklas Lindén transformed his compact penthouse in Halmstad, Sweden, into a “New York treehouse,” blending industrial chic with playful nostalgia. At the heart of the design is the clever addition of a glass-walled loft, maximising 4-meter ceilings and a dramatic wall of windows, creating space for a cosy sleeping nook with curtains for added privacy with a spacious home office below, complete with large desk and integrated IKEA storage. Ample storage in the tiled entrance flows seamlessly into a sleek warm-grey kitchen and spacious open-plan living area. Lindén’s thoughtful use of materials, from marble to steel and brass, and his meticulous approach to design demonstrates how even the smallest homes can provide the comfort and grandeur of a much larger home.
