Wolfgang Tillmans is a German photographer and artist who lives and works in London and Berlin. Motivated by aesthetic and political concerns and interested in formulations of reality and truth claims, his work took the shape of portraiture, still-life, landscape and abstract photography that directly addresses the photographic process and its components. In 2000,Tillmans was the recipient of the Turner Prize. His work has been exhibited internationally including at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), the Hirshhorn Museum (Washington D.C.), the Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin) and the Serpentine Gallery (London). Since 2006 he runs the exhibition space Between Bridges in London. The Serpentine Gallery Garden Marathon was the sixth in the Gallery’s acclaimed Marathon series. This two-day event explored the concept of the garden.
