Councillors’ Attitudes to Residential Design



The Place Alliance will be conducting a new national audit of housing design quality in the UK.
This is an outline of the context and background for the proposed research.
Matthew Carmona is Professor of Planning and Urban Design at the Bartlett School of Planning. He is a Registered Architect and Chartered Planner and Chair of the Place Alliance, a cross-sector collaborative alliance for place quality.
In 2015 he won the RTPI Academic Award for Research Excellence and in 2016 the RTPI Sir Peter Hall Award for Wider Engagement. UCL IRIS lists 264 publications (May 2019).
Matthew is a regular advisor to government and government agencies both in the UK and overseas and lectures internationally. He is European Associate Editor for the ‘Journal of Urban Design’, writes for the journal of the Town & Country Planning Association and a blog at: https://matthew-carmona.com
