What is the role of the architect today? | Dimitrios Sotiropoulos | TEDxBathUniversity

Dimitrios’s talk reflects on the role of the architect in contemporary society. He discusses the socio-political dimension of architecture and he calls on architects to become thinkers of much bigger scale than that of the building. The city can thereby become the field of architecture, while the street can form the element that holds the urban fabric together.

Dimitrios Sotiropoulos is a registered architect in the UK and Netherlands, as well as a Bath alumnus. He attaches sociopolitical depth to the discipline of architecture, and challenges the traditional urban logic.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
