What do we do if they want to be happy? Interview with Reinier de Graaf

During Our Happy Life, we pose questions to architects and thinkers to expand on topics we encountered during the research. In this video, we interview Reinier de Graaf of AMO, and discuss topics including his book Four Walls and a Roof, which was always on our table during the research for this project on the role of the architect today; the idea of 2008 as a “year zero” for the boom of interest in happiness—and the year Facebook is translated to multiple languages and the iPhone is distributed globally producing a data boom; and how planning, compressed between powerful private entities and political forces, engages (or doesn’t) with competitive city indexes.
