Waterline: In the Studio

Waterline was commissioned by Phil Enquist (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill) in junction with the eponymous studio at the Harvard GSD in fall 2011. Students explored the realities of three sites along the South branch of the river and thought of ways to make it more relevant to the public.

Under Enquist’s guidance, the studio seamlessly merged ideas from urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture, while attempting to generate thoughtful design solutions. Working both collectively and individually, the students analyzed and eventually enhanced how this aqueous artery defines the city of Chicago.
