In 2016, only 1.5% of all entries received this highest distinction of the international competition. Manufacturers and designers from 57 countries registered some 5,200 products and sent them to the Ruhr region of Germany for appraisal – uTerminal impressed on the strength of its outstanding design quality, which made it one of the frontrunners in international comparison.

uTerminal was developed and created by the Swiss company ugomo headquartered in Thun and commissioned by TimeTool AG, also a Swiss company. The vision and task was to develop a modern and innovative time-recording terminal tailored to user requirements that would meet the needs of the modern working environment and reflect the zeitgeist.

Collaboration with Schindler and EVIS

The vision of uTerminal was realised and an innovative Swiss product created in close collaboration with vocational training at Schindler, a long-term partner of TimeTool that develops and manufactures the uMount and uMount Plus housing as part of an apprentice project, as well as with EVIS, a company that uses components by u-blox, a spin-off company of the ETH Zurich, to assemble and produce the RFID Bluetooth reader according to ugomo’s clearly defined requirements. After the successful launch of uTerminal powered by ugomo and its early success, potential investors began to show an interest – the company uTerminal, based in Grenchen, was founded on 1 April 2016. uTerminal is being used productively, also under unusual conditions, for example, in the glacier restaurant on the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, at Schindler, Rugenbräu and Intersport. uTerminal – the modern time clock: innovative, easy to use and easy to integrate into the existing infrastructure via WLAN/mobile networks. Perfectly compatible with any time-management system – thanks to uTerminalComm. The recently developed uTerminal app includes all working time management features and is simple, fast and affordable.

The uTerminal app can be easily integrated into the existing IT network. Employees are identified through the QR code via the iPad’s camera or uMount Plus incl. RFID Bluetooth reader for Legic or Mifare badges.

Thanks to the sophisticated concept, any number of uTerminals can be connected across the existing infrastructure. Integrated communication means that uTerminal interacts via WLAN with the time-recording software. Another important feature is that, when used offline, the entries posted are saved in the app and the values are transferred to the time recording software as soon as the app is online again.

uMount & uMount Plus

The Swiss manufactured uMount and uMount Plus (unibody housing) provide an innovative, user-friendly solution for protecting and safeguarding iPads, enabling the fixed installation of terminals. uMount and uMount Plus are produced in series in the Schindler Schweiz  vocational training workshops.
