Heather Rogers is a journalist and author, whose writing has appeared in Mother Jones, The Nation, and the New York Times Magazine. Her first book, Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage, traces the history and politics of household rubbish in the United States. Her newest book, Green Gone Wrong: How Our Economy Is Undermining the Environmental Revolution, takes a critical, on-the-ground look at popular market-based solutions to ecological destruction.
Carlo Ratti is a civil engineer and architect who teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he directs the SENSEable City Laboratory. He is also a principal of carlorattiassociati, an architecture firm based in Turin, Italy. He is a regular contributor to Domus, Casabella, and the Italian newspapers Il Sole 24 Ore and La Stampa.
Both speakers will give presentations to the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation on Wednesday, November 3rd at 6:30pm in the Wood Auditorium of Avery Hall, followed by a moderated round table discussion organized by AUD faculty Mojdeh Baratloo and the AUD10 Student Lecture Committee. This evening lecture is part of Dean’s Lecture Series at GSAPP and is the fourth of five focused public events on “WASTE STREAMS” organized by Architecture and Urban Design Program and in conjunction with the current Urban Design Studios investigating the same topic.
