Unlocking Creativity: Co-Creation & the Age of Folk Design: Jeff Mosher at TEDxRideauCanal

The idea has been put forward that humans are inherently a creative species. Although Picasso was a painter by profession, he collected sketches as a passion. The sketch was the moment of creative ingenuity while the painting was merely an application of learned technique. Jimmy Hendrix never had a guitar lesson. Is it possible that design awareness, particularly subscription to schools of through, may create a cognitive bias that inhibits rather than enables innovation? We will explore how to tap into the inherent creativity of those outside the design profession, and through the process of co-creation, how designers — without co-opting cultures or imposing ideologies — can facilitate and enable others to focus that creativity to design for themselves.

Jeff Mosher is a Designer, Project Manager and Sustainable Design Consultant currently working for HDR Architecture Associates, Inc. in Ottawa, Ontario. Jeff has great deal of interest in design as concept, and is passionate about the capacity of design to empower and transform communities. He is a strong advocate of the “think globally, act locally” mantra, a member of the Canada Green Building Council (Ottawa Chapter) and a co-founder of Permaculture Ottawa. Jeff as a keep interest in sustainable and “deep green” design and works to push the ideas at vanguard of the movement.

Jeff is a graduate of Fanshawe College with honours, in the Architectural Technology program. He has been a LEED Accredited professional since 2007 and Evidence Based Design (EDAC) accredited since 2010.
