Join us as we visit the acclaimed Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, who presents his pictures and sculptures. To Rondinone, art has a shamanistic potential that he wants to use to revolutionize the viewer.
“The best way to describe an artwork is just to describe what you see.” In this video Rondinone presents his multifaceted works, which include paintings, sculptures, installations, drawings, videos and more. He is constantly working his way towards an open form of expression where new images give rise to more new images and idioms: “You don’t have to think in front of an artwork. I never think in front of an artwork.”
Ugo Rondinone (b. 1964) is a Swiss-born mixed-media artist, whose work includes sculpture, painting, video, sound and photography. Rondinone emerged onto the international art scene in the 1990s and has become one of the leading visual artists of his generation. He has held major solo exhibitions at venues such as the Kunsthalle in Vienna, Museo de Art Contemporaneo in Spain and Sculpture Center in New York. In 2007 he represented Switzerland in the Venice Biennale. Rondinone lives and works in New York.
