Montreal, Canada, 2010-09-14 –

With her Inside Out project, a humorous take on the vestibule – a space too often neglected – designer Anne Thomas has her foot in the door of three major cities and is taking advantage of this opportunity to showcase pieces from her collection in new materials. 

On view will be her boot tray made of concrete and also made of PVC, or in foam, decorated with new motifs, her umbrella stand in new colours, and, in addition to her beautiful wooden clothes-hangers, hangers in coloured Plexiglas and an aluminum version that can be ordered. 

Thomas will present her creations in London and Brussels September 22–29 as part of a design trade mission organized by RJCCQ and MDEIE that is seeking new outlets and purchasers for Quebec design.

Then, Thomas will take part in the prestigious exhibition “From Quebec, in New York,” organized by the Quebec Delegation at Relative Space on Bond Street, from September 29 to October 22. The exhibition will feature the most representative creations in various areas of Quebec design in what will prove to be the most extensive deployment of Quebec creativity ever undertaken.

About TOMA
TOMA is a design studio producing playful urban objects that bring a bright spot to everyday life with a wink of humour and a sparkling spirit. Because they have been conceived by graphic designers, these objects mix form and function in a visual syntax that also includes their presentation and packaging. 

The Designers
Designer Anne Thomas founded Thomas design + communication in 1990. The studio combines graphic design and corporate consulting. It was just one step from communication through objects to the communicating object – a step that Thomas took in 2006 when she launched the TOMA collection. 

For the last two years, TOMA has benefited from the input of Monica Gauthier. Trained in graphic and industrial design, Gauthier shares Thomas’s visceral interest in the design of objects and is co-designer of the Inside Out collection. 

The INSIDE OUT Collection
Presented last fall at Tokyo Design Tide and to curators, the collection takes a new look at the objects around us and endows daily rituals with a touch of humour. It brings into our living space articles normally hidden in our entranceway closet. The collection offers practical, aesthetically pleasing objects composed of plain, recyclable materials. Their charm and playfulness is due mainly to the curved, continuous lines of the designs, which transform both the object and its environment.
