“The body is the protagonist.” – Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira on ‘Repertório N.1’ | Serpentine

Artists Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira speak with Imani Mason Brown following the debut of their performance, _Repertório N.1._

_Repertório N.1_ is the final piece of a trilogy by the two Brazilian artists. Drawing on postcolonial, gender and race studies, the _Repertório_ trilogy, a long-term performance project, interrogates the mechanisms of brutality and attempts to dismantle them. Through a vocabulary of poses, gestures and collective actions, _Repertório N.1_ creates an experimental space where the body becomes a site of protection, carrying histories, pleasures and vulnerabilities into the performance space.

Translation by Lachesis Olegario Braick.

_Repertório N.1_ is co-commissioned by Serpentine and Dance Umbrella (UK), Something Great (Germany), Wiener Festwochen (Austria), Arsenic (Switzerland), Viernulvier (Belgium) and Festival DDD/ Teatro Municipal do Porto (Portugal). The world premiere took place in London, October 2025, and the performance will tour internationally in 2026.
