Creativity makes great designers. Design is about solving problems. Good design is subjective. Clients ruin good work. These ideas are repeated constantly throughout the design industry—but each one misses something important.
In this video, I break down some of the biggest lies graphic designers still believe and explore what actually separates consistently great designers from everyone else. We’ll look at why method can matter more than creativity, why designers need to diagnose problems before solving them, how good design can be evaluated beyond personal taste, and why difficult client feedback often has more to do with trust and expertise than bad taste.
The goal isn’t to throw away everything you’ve learned about graphic design. It’s to question the assumptions that might be limiting how you think, communicate, and work as a designer.
