Studio Puisto designs timber and zinc-clad home overlooking a Finnish lake

Studio Puisto has completed a house in Southern Savonia, Finland sitting between a lake and a dense spruce forest, clad in black oil-painted wood and topped by sloping zinc roofs.

Called 3 Square House, the plan of the home has been divided into three interlocking squares: a central “core” and two smaller adjacent spaces housing a garage, storage and a sauna that spills out onto an area of raised wooden decking that connects to a walkway leading down to a jetty out into the lake.

Externally the elevations have been split horizontally by a 2.3-metre high datum, with the bottom half clad in timber and the upper half with zinc panels.
