Sheffield Society of Architects Virtual Building Visit – Blackburn Meadows

Join the Sheffield Society of Architects for their first 2021 Virtual Building Visit – to Blackburn Meadows. The visit is presented by Mihalis Walsh, the lead concept architect for the project from BDP, and is followed by a Q&A.

Blackburn Meadows is a biomass power station converting wood waste to energy. Replacing Sheffield’s cooling towers, it acts as a landmark to the city reflecting the iconic nature of the Tinsley Towers that stood on the site for 70 years. It became operational in 2014 and was awarded the Best Building Award at the Sheffield Design Awards in 2016. A range of materials enclose the compact plant, with black profiled steel and brick reflecting Sheffield’s heritage.
