The second set of winners has been announced at INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors in Singapore, now completing the list of the 12 nominations that will compete to be named World Interior of the Year.

Ammo Bar + Restaurant by WANG won the Bars & Restaurants category, Parkroyal on Pickeringby WOHA claimed the Hotels category (withMacalister Mansion by Ministry of Design being highly commended) and Carrer Avinyó by David Kohn Architects took the Residential category.DPS Kindergarten School by Khosla Associatesand Hublot Pop-Up Store by Asylum Creativewon the Education and Display categories respectively. These projects join yesterday’s category winners to go into the final day of the festival with a chance to win the overall award.

Display category: Hublot Pop-Up Store byAsylum Creative
About the project: Taking advantage of the majestic void space in Paragon Shopping Mall Singapore, Asylum has designed an art installation aptly entitled BIG BANG, which spans across two floors, sweeping impressively across the area. Thousands of “black gems” are hung from the ceiling creating an illusion of a store that has popped up, inviting a sense of excitement and wonder. 

Education category: DPS Kindergarten Schoolby Khosla Associates
About the project: The brief called for Khosla Associates to design a franchise for a popular north Indian school chain called Delhi Public School. The practice created an efficient modular system to be used as building blocks, looking at the basic module of a 700sqft classroom (35ft x 20 ft.) that could be repeated horizontally, or stacked one atop the other. The classrooms on either side flank an 8ft wide single loaded corridor and open up to a central open- to-sky courtyard.

Hotels category: Parkroyal on Pickering byWOHA
Highly commended Macalister Mansion byMinistry of Design
About the project: Parkroyal on Pickering by Singapore-based architecture firm WOHA, sees sky-gardens and tropical plants cover a Singapore skyscraper. This new build hotel in the centre of the business district sees a luxurious interior meet a breathtaking exterior.

Residential category: Carrer Avinyó by David Kohn Architects
About the project: The refurbished apartment on Carrer Avinyó in the Barrio Gotico of Barcelona features an open plan living room, indoor balconies and three bedrooms. The decorative floor tiles – made up of 25 different designs – offer a splash of colour to the space. Their gradual change in tone loosely defines the realms of each occupant, with the green tiles surrounding a stack of two bedrooms and the red tiles framing a kitchen with a bedroom above.

Bars and Restaurants category: Ammo Bar + Restaurant by WANG
About the project: Built by the British army in the mid-19th Century in Hong Kong, the former explosives magazine compound is a culturally and historically significant site. Copper appears as a predominant material in the restaurant space – a material commonly found in machine rooms and industrial settings. The bunker-like ceiling is supported by copper ribs and lit warmly to further reference the explosives magazine history. Luxurious materials such as leather, velvet and silk were chosen to offset the hard-edged custom fixtures and detailing found in the design.
