David Rudlin kicks off this session with an introduction to the National Model Design Code (NMDC), providing the opportunity to learn about how the NMDC can be effectively put into practice. An overview of NMDC pilots’ challenges and opportunities is given and real world examples of design code application are discussed with Bob Allies and Martina Juvara.

The Office for Place event was held in conjunction with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) to discuss issues around creating beautiful, healthy, successful, and enduring places that foster a sense of community, local pride, and belonging. Simon Allford (RIBA President), Nicholas Boys Smith (Chair of the Office for Place Advisory Board), other members of the Office for Place advisory board, and senior civil servants, discussed how they are supporting the built environment, and how architects can contribute and support this work.
